As the weeks have gone by for summer reading 2013, I continue to have parents and caretakers ask about my sensory bags and bottles that I have for the Book Babies to play with. So...I will be doing a make and take program just for adults to create some fun sensory bags for their little ones! I'm very excited because this is my first adult program. Since working with this age, I have become more familiar with how important these simple "toys" are for little hands and eyes. I am hoping that everything goes wonderfully!

Summer Reading 2013

This year, the theme is "Dig Into Reading". I've been putting together programs for my Book Babies and for my Booksters. It's a fun theme to work with and most of the supplies are easy to get-especially DIRT! It seems that the SRP themes are going to be science driven for a little while and it's a lot of fun finding so many awesome ideas and resources to use with each new theme. Booksters (grades 1 and 2) Week One: Dirt Painting Week Two: Paleontology Week Three: Hedgehogs Week Four: Quicksand Week Five: Soil Sampling Week Six: Worm Painting Book Babies (0-24 months) Week One: Beach Theme Week Two: Insect Theme Week Three: Flower Theme Week Four: Peek-a-boo Theme Week Five: Mud Theme Week Six: Bedtime Theme I'll be posting my weekly details as the program begins :)

The Purpose of This Blog...

Well, I'm trying to put into words the purpose. Purpose is a powerful word though. It will set my direction, create a seemingly useful map of what my next steps will be and how this blog will grow. I'm a teacher by trade that has found herself in love with being a "librarian". I say that with quotes because I don't have the degree but for lack of better terms, I am one who works in a library. I create story time programs for the very young (0-24 months) and for those in grades K-2nd. I love my job...without a doubt, I LOVE my job! Recently, my work at the library has led me to be involved in our Community Early Childhood Council that ties me to the public school system as well as the children who are in preschool, prepping for school. I have been blessed with this opportunity and strive to create a connection between families, children, and books. So, after reading all of that, the purpose of this blog is to keep a written account of my programs, how to improve on them, and how to better my craft as I grow with each story time I present. I want to share links, documents, ideas, and anything else that I think will help others in bringing literacy into their lives and planting the seed that a library is so much more than books!
